Modern Foreign Languages

At Cirencester Primary School we have an excellent programme of languages teaching. From September 2015 all pupils from Reception to Year 6 have been learning French.

The teaching of French throughout the school is led by our own specialist, Madame Hardy. Each KS2 class has a fortnightly 30 minute lesson with Madame Hardy where new vocabulary is introduced. The focus during the sessions with Madame Hardy is on having fun, speaking and listening, singing and lots of active games. A volunteer languages teacher will be leading the sessions with our KS1 classes, with the support of the class teacher and Madame Hardy.

Class teachers then follow up these sessions by practising the new vocabulary in class as well as teaching pupils to apply skills learnt into written work. Children will also use lots of informal French, for example when answering the register and through using general greetings.

There are many games and resources on the Internet to support the learning of languages and a few of them are available here.
